BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: The Chief’s final scene is not on Netflix

This was brought up in the comments on the previous thread so I thought I’d repeat it here for those of you that didn’t know. If you watched BATTLESTAR GALACTICA on Netflix, you missed the Chief’s final scene. You can watch it (and the comparisons) at the link below.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: Was there a storyline that you didn’t like?

Was there a storyline on BSG that you didn’t like?

For me (and I’m sure many others), BATTLESTAR GALACTICA was/is the greatest tv series ever. For me, BREAKING BAD is a close second. But even though we have so much love for BSG, was there ever a storyline that you hated or thought was ridiculous?

For me it was the Chief and Cally as a couple. That was absolutely ridiculous. They were more brother and sister than lovers. Cally and Jammer should have been together. If you ever do a rewatch, pay attention to the two of them. And I don’t care what the shows says, Jammer was the real father of Cally’s baby, not Hotdog. Remember how Jammer was the one that helped Cally escape on New Caprica? That’s because he was her lover and her baby daddy.

So what storyline didn’t you like? Was it Starbuck and Apollo not ending up together? Or was it “what the hell was Starbuck?”. Sound off in the comments below. You can be as petty or as silly as you want, we’re just having fun :)

Chris Douglas – Human: An Operators Manual

"Imagine in this instant, your past was wiped away and any insecurity you’ve ever had was gone. What if that little voice in your head that undermines you and keeps you from thriving was torn away from you and you were left with nothing but strength and hope? How would your life change? How would your life change if by simply understanding the purpose to your fears and insecurities allowed you to be liberated from them? What if they provided you with a specific biological survival function and by making a few simple changes would allow you to silence that voice in your head and with it all your fears and insecurities?"

Human: An Operator’s Manual is a proactive and solution focused book that simplifies the psychology, science, and theory behind our survival mechanisms and demonstrates how we can change the way we interact with the world and operate ourselves. This book is a must read not only for those struggling with personal challenges but also for those desiring to optimize their functioning.

Chief & Boomer’s Picon Dream House

I have only just started watching season 4 of EUREKA because James Callis has joined the show. This may be old news because I have not seen any episodes of season 1 to season 3 of EUREKA, but Allison Blake (the lady with the autistic son) lives in Chief & Boomer’s ‘Picon Dream House’.

The images on the left are from BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. The images on the right are from EUREKA.

The first 1:40 is from the BSG episode 4×17: Someone to Watch Over Me.
I cut out the parts where Tyrol goes upstairs to see their daughter.

The last 1:10 are from the EUREKA episodes 4×01: Founder’s Day and 4×02: A New World.

Best of Battlestar: Best Fist Fight

Every week the BSG SciFi.com website has a Best of Battlestar poll. This week the category is Best Fist Fight.
The Chief is up for two nominations for ‘Pegasus’ and ‘Unfinished Business’

http://www.scifi.com/battlestar/bestof

What idiot picks these nominations? Everyone knows that the best fist fight was between the Chief and Helo in Flight of the Phoenix :)

Modern Guitars Magazine – The Battlestar Galactica guitar

I’m a big geek. Seriously, I’ve been into comics and sci-fi since I could barely read. I attend the conventions and I watch the shows. And I’m the biggest geek where it comes to the show Battlestar Galactica. Though I watched the first show when it aired in the 70’s, I’m talking about the masterpiece that is the re-imagining.

I love the show so much that I wanted a personal connection with it. I’ve worked with many celebrities and I don’t ask for autographs. I feel it’s unprofessional. But I wanted autographs from the cast of BSG more than anything. I also wanted to give something in return. My idea was to offer a guitar that would be auctioned for charity in return for autographs on the guitar and on a painting for me.

I mentioned my plan to Debbie Slavkin, program manager at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation. She and I worked together on 2 previous auction guitars – the 24 and the nip/tuck painted on Lipe Guitars. The nip/tuck was autographed by the cast of the show and the 24 was autographed by Keifer Sutherland. Both were sold to benefit the Academy.

Debbie said if she could make it happen, could we sell the guitar in an upcoming auction for the Academy. I agreed and she quickly put me in contact with Carol Marks-George, who was working on the set of Battlestar Galactica in Vancouver.

In our initial email contacts, I shared my design of the guitar with Carol. I kept it simple. I wanted plenty of negative space for autographs. And I wanted it dark, like the show. The show is the ship and I took great pleasure in reproducing the ship on the surface of the beautiful American-made Stratocaster.

It takes a lot of good people to make such a guitar happen. My good friend Del Breckenfeld at Fender donated the guitar. The guitar had to be dis-assembled before I could paint it and that was done by Mike Lipe. He and I began working together from his Guitar Doctor shop in Burbank, then through the Ibanez Custom Shop. We now work together on many projects and he’s always someone I can call on for my charity projects.

After Mike took the hardware off the body and removed the neck, I did my artwork. Then everything was sent to another generous friend that I’ve worked with for many years, Pat Wilkins of Wilkins Finishes. He applied a thin coat of clear to protect the artwork, but not to finish it.

Then the guitar body was shipped to the set of Battlestar Galactica. After some interesting discussions with Canadian customs, it arrived in good shape after a few days. I was extremely grateful that the cast was doing this for me and expressed this by sending each cast member a gift bag with a thank you note, specialty chocolates and a pen for signing the guitar and artwork.

At the last minute, I threw in a disposable camera and asked Carol if they wouldn’t mind taking pictures of the signing of the guitar. I figured, what the heck, it’s worth a shot.

I got a call soon after from Carol telling me that they’d thrown the camera out and instead had their set photographer shoot the stars with the guitars. Not only that, but the actors also signed the photos! There was a set for the auction and a set for me. The geek in me was over-the-top.

The autographed guitar was shipped back and then taken back to Pat Wilkins for the final clearcoat. From there it went to Mike Lipe for re-assembly and set-up. I purchased custom knobs that were black metal with red glass that I felt really matched the theme.

Overall, the process took several months, involved many people and covered many miles. The result was a gorgeous one-of-a-kind guitar that was built by people doing good things for each other. It’s corny, but it really does feel good.

So say we all.

Aaron will never say FRAK on BSG (???)

Below is excerpt from the wired.com article about S4 of BSG. According to them, Aaron has said he will never say FRAK on BSG …

Frak is back, big time
Characters spew BSG’s signature F word four times in the season opener’s first three minutes. But don’t expect the Chief to use the expletive any time soon. Aaron Douglas, the actor who plays Chief Petty Officer Galen Tyrol, told Wired.com that he vows never to utter frak on camera. Too bad he’s used it at home: While taking pots out of a kitchen cabinet, Douglas says, some kitchenware fell directly on his foot. Gut reaction? “Frak!”

Source: Cylon Mania Blazes Back in ‘Battlestar Galactica’

Is that true? I know the Chief has said frakking, mother-frakker, frak wit. But has the Chief never said frak? Really? Hmmmm, I think this needs a little investigating. Off to rewatch scenes of the Chief.

EDIT: Here’s all the mentions of frak-isms by the Chief. I stopped checking once I found an actual frak.

1×07: Six Degrees of Separation – “Frak it” [Note: He was mumbling it. So I’ll let him get away with that one]
2×01: Scattered – “That’s it. That’s it, you stupid, frakked-up crap!”
2×02: Valley of Darkness – “Mother-frakker”
2×08: Final Cut – “You know what? Frak the camera. You’ve been riding by crews ass for no frakking reason”
2×09: Flight of the Phoenix – “Did she fill you in on the rest of the plan? She and I were going to muster out at the end of our service. You know, then we would get married. Maybe we would have children. I guess I’m just a big frakkin’ idiot, though, huh? Probably that goddamn toaster’s plan all along”
2×09: Flight of the Phoenix – “(in his head) Frak it. Why not?”

And from tonight’s episode …
4×01: He That Believeth In Me – “Get the frak in there, go kill something”
4×01: He That Believeth In Me – “Anders! Get the frak in your Viper!”

EDIT (2): In Aaron’s defence (because I asked him about this) He said that he gave them that quote back in season one. And as you can see, he never said it in season one. Aaron FTW :)

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (Returns Friday, 4/4 10/9c, Sci Fi Channel)

Last March’s season finale boosted one of the great shockers in TV history: Four humans — Col. Saul Tigh (Michael Hogan), Sam Anders (Michael Trucco), “Chief” Tyrol (Aaron Douglas) and President Roslin’s assistant Tory Foster (Rekha Sharma) — suddenly found that they’re actually robotic Cylons. When the final season begins, they’ll still be in the closet and grappling with their new identities in very different ways, ranging from righteous denial (Tigh) to outright liberation (that would be Tory). A break within the Cylon collective will put Natalie — yet another version of Number Six (Tricia Helfer) — in charge of a rebel faction. Back from the dead, Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff) learns of the prediction (revealed in last fall’s BSG TV-movie Razor) that she is the herald of the apocalypse and that the humans must not follow her to Earth.

But who is the fifth and final Cylon? “It’s going to surprise a lot of people,” promises Mark Stern, Sci Fi’s executive VP of original programming. “The reveal will have great emotional resonance and will make many things that happened in the first three seasons click into place and make sense.”

BSG nuts take hope: The dearth of new material brought on by the writers’ strike has revived interest in Caprica, a fully scripted pilot for a BSG prequel that’s been sitting around Sci Fi for over a year. Reports Stern: “I just got a call from [parent company] NBC-Universal. They want us to take another look at the project.”

Note: This is a snippet of an interview with XXX where he mentions AARON DOUGLAS / CHIEF TYROL. To read the full interview, click HERE.

“We’re the coolest, no question about it,” says Penikett.

He recounts how “Eureka” actor Ed Quinn tracked the “Battlestar” cast down when he first arrived in Vancouver. “We didn’t know who he was,” Penikett says. “He was, ‘Welcome to town. Would you like to come over and watch the fights?’ The guy couldn’t shut up about the show. It was awesome.”

Apparently, the relationship has continued.

“I’ve been a fan since the beginning,” says Quinn, speaking in early May. “That show, the writing, it’s just opera. It’s so incredibly good. Aaron Douglas is a friend of mine, and I have been texting him, ‘You are a bleeping, bleeping Cylon, you bleeping traitor.’ He is so angry with me. He’s probably going to punch me.”
