BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: The Chief’s final scene (UPDATE)

The Chief’s Final Scene is a subject that usually comes up on the anniversary of the airing of the BSG miniseries, pilot episode or finale.
You either know it’s the scene of the Chief with Tigh and Ellen where he tells them he’s going to go live in Scotland. Or you think it’s the Chief slumped down on the floor on the Galactica after strangling Tory. If you believe it’s the latter it’s not your fault, it’s just what streaming service you used to watch BSG. And this link is for you.

EDIT (1): If you have access to watch BSG on a platform that wasn’t mentioned in the attached link, please let me know if the Chief’s final scene is missing or not and I will add it to the list. Thank you.

EDIT (2): If anyone has Amazon Prime can you please confirm if the Chief’s final scene is there. Looks like the USA & UK have it. And Canada and Australia don’t.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: Episodes are on BBC iPlayer & BBC Two (UK)

FOR FANS IN THE UK 🇬🇧: “The BBC has acquired beloved cult sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica from NBCUniversal Global Distribution and is bringing it to BBC iPlayer as a box set. EDIT: I just checked the BBC iPlayer and the Chief’s final scene is *missing* from ‘Daybreak (Part 3)’. So that makes Amazon Prime, Peacock, SyFy website/app, Comet, BBC and Netflix (when the episodes were on there) that don’t have it. Only streaming service that does have it is STAN (Australia).

EDIT: I just checked episode 4×21: Daybreak (Part 3) and the Chief’s final scene is missing. The scene wasn’t included when the episodes aired on Netflix. And it is not included in the episodes that are currently airing on Amazon Prime and on SyFy.com (Update): It’s also not in the episode airing on Comet.

SPOILERS!!! The scenes are supposed to be… Anders flying the Galactica into the sun, the Chief’s final scene (w/ Tigh & Ellen) on new Earth, a flashback of Tigh & Ellen in a bar, Adama & Roslin sitting together on the plains of new Earth. The Chief, Tigh & Ellen scenes are missing.

I would assume anyone reading this has already watched BSG when it aired on tv (DVD/Bluray). This post is just a heads up in case you have any friends/family that are watching for the first time on Peacock. And if you’ve ever only seen BSG on Netflix or Amazon Prime then this ‘missing scene’ might be news to you.

We never knew the scene had been cut until Aaron had fans at cons telling him how disappointed they were that the Chief got such a sucky ending. They had only ever seen BSG on Netflix. They thought this was his ending.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: 10 Year Anniversary of final episode airing

Today is the 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY of the final episode of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA airing on March 20, 2009. Here is a video of the Chief’s final scene (which you would never have seen if you only watched the Netflix version). I hope he’s enjoying life in Scotland. Please feel free to share your story on how you became a fan of BSG. I’ll add mine in the comments.

UPDATE: Awwww. Aaron’s tweet about the Chief ❤️

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: The Chief’s final scene is not on Netflix

This was brought up in the comments on the previous thread so I thought I’d repeat it here for those of you that didn’t know. If you watched BATTLESTAR GALACTICA on Netflix, you missed the Chief’s final scene. You can watch it (and the comparisons) at the link below.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: The Chief’s final scene is not on Netflix

This is a clip of the Chief’s final scene from the BSG episode 4×20: DAYBREAK. This is what aired on tv on the Sci-Fi channel.

THE CHIEF’S FINAL SCENE

Every so often someone will mention to Aaron that the Chief’s final scene is missing from the episode on NETFLIX so I decided to take a look at it.
The scenes right before and after the Chief’s final scene (as it aired on television) are ….

– Adama flying his Husker Viper
– Anders/hybrid rambling in the tub in the CIC
– Galactica and fleet flying towards the sun
Chief, Tigh and Ellen walking together on “earth”. He tells them he’s going to Scotland
Chief walks off, Ellen and Tigh embrace, flashback of them at a strip club
– Adama and Roslin on “earth”. Roslin looking through binoculars at gazelles

In the Netflix version the scenes highlighted above in red are missing.
If I edit the start and end of the clips to the exact same place (Adama in Viper/Roslin looking through binoculars) then the length of the clips are …

3:53 – TV version (Sci-Fi Channel)
3:45 – DVD Version
1:20 – Netflix

The TV version is 8 seconds longer than the dvd version but all the same dialogue is there. There’s just extra screen time on Anders in the CIC, the fleet, etc. The Netflix version is missing the whole Chief, Ellen and Tigh scene and the strip club scene.

Below is a video clip of the TV version (3:53) and the Netflix version (1:20) so you can see what’s been cut out.

SCI-FI CHANNEL VERSION (3 minutes & 53 seconds)

NETFLIX VERSION (1 minute and 20 seconds)
