The Plague Nerdalogues

Aaron Douglas, Tricia Helfer and Rekha Sharma are just some of the actors that took part in THE PLAGUE NERDALOGUES project by Marc Bernardin (Tricia’s co-host on the BATTLESTAR GALACTICAST podcast).

The Plague Nerdalogues, is “a compilation of fan-favorite actors reenacting classic geek scenes from film and television, all for charity (No Kid Hungry)”. The minimum donation is $10 which gets you access to watch all of the videos. Marc tweeted that this is an ongoing project, so more videos will be added in the future.

Aaron did the Narrator from The Road Warrior (aka ‘Mad Max 2’) with a BSG twist. I won’t spoil it, you’ll have to watch it. Tricia did a scene from Kill Bill. Jonathan Frakes did Kirk’s eulogy from Wrath of Khan.

Tricia Helfer, Jonathan Frakes, Phil LaMarr Film ‘The Plague Nerdalogues’ to Benefit No Kid Hungry (EXCLUSIVE)
Date: May 18, 2020
By: Ellise Shafer

A new video series will feature actors from the nerdosphere — including Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica), Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek), Phil LaMarr (Samurai Jack) and Brea Grant (Heroes) — performing beloved monologues from the past to benefit No Kid Hungry.

Aptly named The Plague Nerdalogues, the series is a compilation of fan-favorite actors reenacting classic geek scenes from film and television, all for charity. For example, Frakes will take on the role of Captain Kirk, Helfer will perform as Bill from “Kill Bill” and Lamarr as Samurai Jack doing Inigo Montoya from “The Princess Bride.”

Other actors on the roster include Cameron Cuffe, David Dastmalchian, Azita Ghanizada, Todd Stashwick, Rob Benedict, Yuri Lowenthal, Rekha Sharma, Tiffany Smith and Damion Poitier.

The “Nerdalogues” will be uploaded to http://theplaguenerdalogues.com and available for a minimum $10 donation to No Kid Hungry. Once a donation has been made, viewers will receive a password that unlocks unlimited access to the platform as more video submissions continue to be posted.

I have, like so many of you, tried to figure out ways I—TV writer, former journalist, constant nerd—could help during the #COVID19 crisis. Then I realized, we’re a community, us nerds. So I turned to some I know and launched #ThePlagueNerdalogues.

I asked some noteworthy nerds if they’d self-tape some of their favorite nerd monologues, which I would then hide behind a paywall—unlocked via a charitable donation. So many agreed it was humbling.

But I’m not surprised by their generosity or their talent, just the speed with which they answered the call. And few will be as giddy as I was to watch @jonathansfrakes do Kirk’s eulogy from Wrath of Khan, or @phillamarr give Princess Bride a Samurai Jack twist… Or the one that tickled me the most, The Avengers’ OG Thanos, @damionpoitier, deliver an #AvengersEndgame speech. And @officialtriciahelfer, @thecameroncuffe, @RobBenedict, @yetide, @Dastmalchian, @TheRekhaSharma, @breagrant, @tstashwick, @azitagram, @theaarondouglas… And there are dozens more. You can see them all by donating as little as $10 to No Kid Hungry via http://theplaguenerdalogues.com. Let’s all do a little good by being who we are: Nerds, and proud..

As that @variety story details, I asked some noteworthy nerds if they’d self-tape some of their favorite nerd monologues, which I would then hide behind a paywall—unlocked via a charitable donation. So many agreed it was humbling.

Damnit. “AND proud.”

(And you guys HAVE to see what @theaarondouglas did for his take on The Road Warrior’s narrator piece. Next level!)

Finally: Once you donate and get access to the video gallery, that’s it. Just navigate back to that page to keep watching. No password. I trust you. Because the first duty is to the truth.

Oh…and one more thing. The Plague Nerdalogues is absolutely an ongoing affair. More monologues are being set up and will add to the donation-reward pool. So if you’re an actor and wanna come play…holler.

I did the Narrator from The Road Warrior, but mine isn’t like the others.
My idea was:

If 8 year old me had an iPhone
&
48 year old me had a Microphone
&
Together they made a thing

I hope you think it’s fun.
It was being a kid again/making it.

I did one from Kill Bill in which I talk about Superman 😉

Rekha Sharma (@TheRekhaSharma) May 18, 2020
Just got crowned “Nerd Royalty” by @Variety so that’s pretty good for a… day… do those still exist?

Thank you for making this happen, Marc! We done a good thing and I hope you’ll join the cause! ♥️🙏🏽🤓
