Elena: Do you see your dad?
Jasper: Not really. There’s Dad.
Matthew: Oh, hey, buddy. Thanks for coming to help me at work today.
Jasper: Can I hold the shovel?
Matthew: Oh, you read my mind, because it is way too heavy for me. Thanks for bringing him.
Elena: You’re welcome. He should be proud.
Matthew: Come on. Meet me up here.
Otis: Hello. I want to thank everyone for coming here today. My name is Otis Winthrop the Third. I am the CEO of the rinky-dink organization we call the Greybourne Corporation. We are so proud to partner with the Greybourne Preservation Fund, represented here today by myself and my father, Otis Winthrop the Second. And now I can formally announce that our very own Matthew Ward is coming in-house as his firm, Ward & Brickman, become an official Greybourne subsidiary. Please, give a warm welcome to my good friend, my trusted colleague, and my… cousin-in-law? Is that right? Matthew Ward, everyone.
Matthew: Thank you. Good afternoon. It’s an honor to represent the Greybournes, who are committed to bringing prosperity and opportunity to every corner in New York City. Thank you.

Tory: Hello, Otis.

Tory: Thank you. Wish I could say the same about you.
Otis: Big night for your husband. I hope it goes according to plan.

Otis: Matthew Ward. I can’t tell who anyone is with these masks on. But I guess that’s the point. You need a theme.
Matthew: Otis, it’s good to see you. You excuse me?
Otis: Oh, no, no, no, no, no. (chuckles) Come with me.

Matthew: I didn’t ask to be on the board for the building. I didn’t ask for any of this.
Otis: I don’t care about your feelings, Matthew. I just want to know if I have your vote.
Matthew: Well, I haven’t decided yet.
Otis: What can I do to help you decide?
Matthew: You can’t. See, I’m gonna make the decision that’s best for my son. Wouldn’t mind getting the hell away from this whole arrangement, if you want to know the truth. I don’t like what we’re doing.
Otis: Matthew, it’s like the old song says. You can check out, but you can never leave.

Otis: (Otis taps microphone) Excuse me. May I have your attention? Friends of the Greybourne Foundation, nothing brings me greater joy than to celebrate one of my favorite people, Mrs. Charlotte Greybourne Ivey. (Applause) And I am especially proud to do it here in this property, which the Greybourne Corporation purchased despite many obstacles. Greybourne Corporation gets things done. (Applause) And now it is my distinct pleasure to introduce our guest of honor, Charlotte Ivey. (Applause) (Suspenseful music plays)
Mrs. Ivey: Thank you, Otis.
Matthew: Where’s Dick?
Tory: I don’t know.
Mrs. Ivey: I always say you’re never too old to want your father to be proud of you. My father, Alistair Greybourne, died young, but I have kept his legacy alive by honoring the Greybourne name. My work for the Save New York Foundation has given me a platform to celebrate my father and the city we all love. Thank you. (Applause)

(1) EXT. JAMES’ LOWER EAST SIDE BUILDING – DAY

[Alex and Ginny are watching James’ apartment from across the street]
Alex: Thanks again for coming with me.
Ginny: It has been a while since I’ve stalked someone’s apartment. Is James even in there?
Alex: Where else would he be? It’s not like he has a job. Or replies to any of my texts or answers any phone calls.
Ginny: Okay, so what’s the point of this, then, if we’re obviously cutting him out of our lives.
Alex: I want the unvarnished truth. Satisfy my inner Agatha Christie.
Ginny: Well, there he is. Go get your truth.
[They watch as James meets with Otis, who hands over a fat envelope]
Alex: Okay, that looks an awful lot like an envelope full of cash. Who’s that guy?
Ginny: I don’t know about cash. but that is definitely Otis Winthrop the Third.
Alex: From the gala?
Ginny: Mrs. Chan’s brother.
Alex: Well, does James work for him?
Ginny: Not that I’ve heard about. I don’t have a good feeling about this. Let’s go.
Alex: Yeah, yeah.
Ginny: Come on, come on.
[Alex and Ginny hurry away]

(2) INT. GREYBOURNE ELEVATOR – DAY
[Elevator bell dings]
Alex: Oh! Hold the elevator.
[Ginny and Alex pry the door open and enter]
Elena: Hi
Ginny: Hi
Alex: Elena, you believe what just happened. We just got back from staking out James’ apartment.
Elena: Did you talk to him?
Ginny: No, but we saw him with Otis Winthrop.
Alex: The third. Not the old guy. He was giving him an envelope full of cash.
Elena: Like some gangster?
Alex: Exactly.
Elena: For what?
Alex: Well, that’s what we want to find out.
Ginny: (to Elena) Aren’t you leaving today?
Elena: No, not just yet.
[Elevator bell dings. The elevator reaches Mrs. Ivey’s floor. Elena gets off]
Alex: Wait, are you not coming to the attic?
Elena: I’ll be up in a minute. Just a quick pit stop.
[The elevator doors close]
